KIRO TV’s Essex Porter to moderate Seattle Mayoral debate at Central Area forum

FirstThursday Seattle in collaboration with Tabor 100 will feature Seattle’s mayoral candidates, Jenny Durkan and Cary Moon in a debate setting moderated by KIRO TV’s Essex Porter 10am, Saturday, September 30th at the Central Area Senior Center.

The candidates may be quizzed about their views and what they will do to address economic power, educational excellence and social equity for African-Americans and the community at large.

Essex Porter covers government and politics for KIRO TV. Essex has served as co-anchor of the KIRO Morning News, anchor of KIRO’s Puget Sound Business Report, and Eastside Bureau Chief. He has been inducted into the Silver Circle of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Northwest Chapter.
 
The mayoral debate will follow Tabor 100’s September General Meeting (Approximately 11am) this Saturday, September 30th at the Central Area Senior Center, 500 30th Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98144. The meeting will begin promptly at 10 am.
 
A Hot breakfast will be served at 9:45 am catered by With Style Catering.
 
Tabor’s regular meeting will feature:

Lance Lyttle, Managing Director of Sea-Tac Airport will introduce the new concessions manager, Dawn Hunter.
Roger Millar, Secretary of Transportation, WSDOT will discuss WSDOT 2017 Disparity Study Findings.

Essex Porter Biographical Information:
Essex Porter covers government and politics for KIRO TV. He began his broadcast career at KLMS Radio in Lincoln, Nebraska, then served as a television reporter at KETV in Omaha,and KATU in Portland, Oregon before joining KIRO.
He was one of the first reporters on the scene of the Mt. St. Helens volcanic eruption in 1980. He also reported from the scene of the Northridge earthquake in Los Angeles in January 1994.
Essex has served as co-anchor of the KIRO Morning News, anchor of KIRO’s Puget Sound Business Report, and Eastside Bureau Chief. He has been inducted into the Silver Circle of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Northwest Chapter.
Essex is a graduate of Radford High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, the University of Nebraska, and the William Benton Fellowship for Broadcast Journalists at the University of Chicago.
