Seattle, January 28, 2016–Third Annual Through the Eyes of Art Black History Month celebration sponsored by Starbucks, EMP Museum, BrandKings, Northwest FolkLife, NAACP and others takes place February 26, 2016. This year’s theme is “Black Love.”
Seattle’s premier Black History Month event that highlights artwork from regional painters and photographers in the “Black Love” art showcase. Through the Eyes of Art features performances by Kimberly Nichole from The Voice and Seattle Hip Hop heavyweight Draze. The night will also welcome insights from NAACP Gerald Hankerson, Seattle President and Councilmember Larry Gossett.
There will be a feature presentation of the “Servant of The People” Award honoring:
- Patrinell Wright most notably known for her work with the Total Experience Gospel Choir.
- Gregg Alex & Dora “D” Krasucki-Alex, most notably known for their work with the Matt Talbot Center and Mary McClinton Home.
Closing the event will be a Relationships Panel identifying some keys to building lasting relationships.
Through the Eyes of Art has received national press and brought community leaders, politicians, and forward thinkers together under one roof to discuss issues affecting urban communities across America. Attendees have included Macklemore, Talib Kweli, Mayor Ed Murray, artist India Arie, Councilmember Bruce Harrell, Deputy Mayor Hyeok Kim, and other prominent Seattle public figures.
