bio_royster_juanaFirstThursday Seattle presents, Dr. Juana R Royster, PhD, Wednesday, June 3, 7 Pm at the Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club, 4520 Martin Luther King Jr Way S. in Seattle’s Columbia City.

Dr. Juana R Royster, is a Community Health Education Specialist for Washington State University King County Extension (WSUKCE). She provides community-based health awareness education workshops for the Greater Seattle/ King County communities, particularly in diabetes education for the WSUKCE/Joslin Diabetes Education Research Project.

Dr. Royster will provide diabetes awareness education to FTS members and friends about the risks associated with diabetes and its complications. She will include an overview of diabetes, pre-/post-diabetes screening, healthy food planning, food labeling, heart healthy food planning and eating for health and pleasure.

In 1997, Dr Royster was diagnosed with diabetes. So, in 1998, she determined, after spending nearly ten years in University administration, she would devote her life to learning and teaching about diabetes and other health-related issues. She works primarily with people of color and other un-served/underserved audiences; she remains active on health-related committees/ boards at the state, county and city levels.
